Chelation Therapy

The chelation process serves the purpose of removing heavy metals from the body by using amino acids to create bonds between undesired minerals so that the body can get rid of them.  The most common method of chelation therapy involves a drug called EDTA (ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid), which is approved by the FDA when used in this way.  EDTA is prepared with a solution of vitamins and minerals, and administered intravenously.

Heavy metal toxicity is becoming more and more prevalent and toxic heavy metals may lead to a decline in the mental, cognitive, and physical health of the individual.  Metals that are often associated with toxicity in the body are mercury, arsenic, and cadmium. Most of these metals, such as zinc, copper, chromium, iron, and manganese, while required by the body for normal function, can become toxic after a certain point and begin to interfere with normal organ system function.  The chelation process is designed to restore the normal function of these organs.

Here is an abbreviated list of some of the benefits of chelation:

  • Help rejuvenate your cardiovascular system
  • Reduce toxic lead and metal deposits and abnormal calcium deposit
  • Reduce leg cramps
  • Improve liver function and kidney function
  • Increase circulation to the brain

Identifying Symptoms of Toxic Levels of Heavy Metals in the Body

The following list contains symptoms that may be tell-tale signs that there may be toxic levels of metals present in your system.  Keep in mind that simply experiencing one or a few of these symptoms should not automatically lead you to conclude that you have been exposed to toxic levels of these elements.  This non-exhaustive list should, however, serve as starting point to help you identify if chelation therapy is something that you may benefit from.  To take the guess work out, simply contact us and schedule an appointment so that we can help you identify the proper care that you may need, even if it is something other than chelation.

Some of the negative effects of heavy metal toxicity are memory loss, increased allergic reactions, depression, mood swings, irritability, poor concentration, aggressive behavior, sleep disabilities, fatigue, speech disorders, high blood pressure, neuropathy, autoimmune diseases, and chronic fatigue.  We have also written an article describing the link between heavy metals and autism in children
